KANCHIPURAM
Kanchipuram, about 65 kms from Madras, is wellknown for its silk woven fabrics. It was successively the capital of the Pallavas, the Cholas and the Rakas of Vijayanagar. The "golden city" had close links withy all of south Asia. Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism competed for supremacy in this ancient city. One of the detailed records of this southern capital was left by Husuan Tsang in the seventh century.
