Jabalpur
Jabalpur, one of the largest cities in Madhya Pradesh, was a major seat of the Mauryan empire. In the 18th century, the Marathas shifted their capital to Jabalpur and the city was later captured by the British in battle. The town's biggest attraction is the Bhera Ghat Marble Rocks, the one kilo-metre-long gorge through which the Narmada river flows. There are glittering white cliffs upto 62 metres height. The gorge ends in a barrier of rocks from which the river cascades into a waterfall. On the way to the Marble Rocks is Madan Mahal, a rock fortress of the Gond Tribal king built on a huge balancing boulder which is a geological curiosity.
