INDORE
Indore, former capital of the princely state of the Holkars, was planned and built by Rani Ahalyabai, and lies on the banks of the rivers Saraswati and Khan and earns its name from the Indreswar temple. Indore was one of the centres of the uprising of 1857. The Bada Ganapti, is seen on the main street of Malharganj. Chhari Bagh contains the cenotaphs of the Holkar kings. About 150 kms away are the Bagh caves, rock-cut attractions like those of Ajanta and Ellora, but on a smaller scale. The bagh caves contain paintings done between the fifth and seventh centuries.
